Career History
Living in exile from 1985, Mustafa Al Kadhimi divided his time between Europe and the Middle East, living in Iran, Germany, Sweden and the United Kingdom. It was during this period that he forged a successful career as an award-winning author, journalist and documentary producer. He contributed to various multinational media outlets over the years, as well as producing documentaries for major television networks. Mr Al Kadhimi also led Radio Free Europe in Iraq for a time and co-founded the Iraqi Media Network.
During his tenure as Director of the Iraq Memory Foundation, Mustafa Al Kadhimi played an instrumental role in documenting atrocities committed by Saddam Hussein’s regime, preserving an important chapter in Iraqi history.

Appointed Prime Minister of Iraq in May 2020, Mustafa Al Kadhimi came to office at a time of great financial uncertainty and national unrest in the country. One of his most impressive achievements was launching his ‘White Paper’ for economic reform, outlining more than 200 strategies designed to increase governmental transparency, reduce corruption and promote fiscal responsibility, confronting the influence of armed factions and militias. During his tenure, Mustafa Al Kadhimi also led negotiations regarding a transition of the US military presence in the country, paving the way for the withdrawal of US forces in 2021. He also spearheaded a campaign that ensured the safe return of over 17,000 Iraqi artefacts that had been looted and taken abroad.
Mustafa Al Kadhimi has been recognised with numerous prestigious awards and accolades over the years, including the Légion d’Honneur, France’s highest national order of merit.
